Real

My trip to see "C" and attend her first doctor's appointment was a good one. It was my first time visiting this city.

I flew out on Monday, April 23 and "C" picked me up from the airport. She drove me to her home where I would be staying for the night. I met her husband and son for the first time (and two cats) - I had already met her daughter during their visit here.

Our doctor's appointment was scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, April 24. The doctor advised that the due date would be December 18, 2007 based on her last menstrual period and average menstrual cycle. This meant we were exactly Week 6 that day. It also turns out that the doctor is very supportive of surrogacy. After a quick physical, which I was gladly not present for, we went upstairs for "C" to get some blood drawn. In addition to the typical stuff, we had also requested a beta test - it would be the third. I flew home after the appointment.

I look forward to attending the next appointment on May 22, which will be exactly Week 10.

Update: I talked to the nurse today via phone and she advised that all is well - she called it a "normal pregnancy". She also reported our beta at 8318.

Optimistic

"C" did a second beta test and reported a 393.4. Things are progressing - I may ask her to do a third beta test on Friday. Her first doctor's appointment is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24 so I will be flying out for that. I'm looking forward to meeting the doctor and getting a progress report.

Bliss

Someone pinch me quick and hard! No words can truly express how I feel at this moment. Can it be possible? Do dreams really come true?

Yesterday, "C" took two HPTs and got a faint line both times. It was exciting - I had a big grin on my face but kept both feet on the ground since they could have been false positives. However, "C" went in for a beta test today and it was confirmed - she is PREGGO!!!!! Beta = 42.5 so we may get another beta early next week to see how things are progressing. Tomorrow, "C" will also make her first appointment for April - hopefully, she can schedule it for two weeks down the road. The heartbeat should be detected by then and I can come out for that.

I know it's still early but nonetheless it's exciting news. I know many things can happen (or not happen) moving forward but for now, I'm in ultimate bliss.

Evolution

Our second transfer attempt was not successful. It was disappointing news but it did not put me in that temporary mental dark space like the first unsuccessful attempt did.

"C" was having great difficulty with the injections and medication so we have decided to pursue traditional surrogacy. That leaves me with two frozen embryos to use in the future.

Where are we now? Well, "C" ovulated some time between March 23 and 24 using OPKs - we did inseminations on March 24 and 25. Today is 17 dpo but no positive HPT. She also went in today for a beta test and that also came out as negative. The good news is that there are no signs that her period is coming. I did some research and there's a chance she's missed her period. "Many things can cause missed periods, including illness, stress, excessive exercise, and hormonal imbalances." Of course, we are crossing fingers that "C" is pregnant due to a late implanter.
